Mrs. Kales Lowe, county chairman, states that this quota is an "urgent and since it involves only simple sewing for men in active duty and in hospitals, and since the canning season has not yet begun, she hopes that large corps will report every day in July so that the quota may be shipped on time. i The quota- has been here several weeks and is not yet half done.

Women who can donate time to this service are urged to report at the headquarters over Burley Drug any week day afternoon from 1 to 9 o'clock. Vernal Harper Given Citation Award Ogden Air Service Field, Utah-Vernal A. Harper, formerly a resident of Burley, Idaho, has won a citation from "the commanding officer of the Ogden Air Service Command as well as a cash award for inventing a device to be used in lathes in the machine shop that will materially increase production and save manpower, Harper, now a machinist in the airplane repair section machine shop received his citation and check for $25.00 at a meeting of civilian employees July 4. Sage Brush Removal Is To Be Pondered Last week, two plots of study sage brush removal and release of competition to grass and weeds were established north of the Bostetter ranger station, states Forest Supervisor John T. Mathews.

Definite measurements of present conditions were made which will be compared eac year with new measurements to determine the effect of sage brush removal upon grasses and weeds on the areas. Ranger C. E. Jensen of Oakley established the plots. Mr. Turner said that Shell's head office for this area was located at Spokane and that Spokane, covers eastern Washington, eastern Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming and that these states are receiving their proportionate share of Shell's $8,000,000 subscription. He also said that Cassia county was to receive credit for $1900. He began ills duties this week and will be at the beach every day from 1 to 8 m. and lesson may be obtained from the life guard at any time. The annual Swim Week will be held last -week of July and the first week of August, buses to meet tne students for these classes at the righ school to convey them to the beach during those two weeks. Mrs. Lowe urges that those wishing to take instructions in swimming and life saving register at the Red Cross headquarters any time prior to the opening of classes the last of July, so that schedules may be arranged.

New Farm Security Secretary Named Mrs. Ruth Manning of Rupert has been selected as new secre tary at the Farm Security offices in this city to succeed Mrs. Bev erly Coltrin, who retires from that position effective July 15. Mrs. Coltrin has filled that posi tion since October 1943.

For the past two years, Mrs. Manning has been connected with the OPA offices in Rupert and the past few weeks has been attending Boise Business University. Golden Wilcox Named New Ward Clerk Golden Wilcox was installed as ward clerk by Wlnfield Hurst of tne Burley stake presidency Sun day at sacrament meeting at Burley First Ward church. Minidoka Forest Roads Undergo Inspection H. M. Shank, regional engineer with the United States Forest Service at Ogden was here last week and Inspected most of the Minidoka National Forest roads in company of Forest Supervisor John T. Mathews. Mr.

Shank expressed himself as well pleased with the present methods of road- maintenance. Clark Miles in the office of timber management also at. Ogden, visited the forest to inspect the progress of control of mountain pine beetle which has been attacking lodge pole pine trees in the Bostetter ranger viciniy. Almo Community Gets Schaol Donations The Almo community is in receipt of over $350 from various men, women and business houses throughout the county and some money has come from as far away as Pocatello, toward the erection of the new school house to be built at Almo by donations. The people of Almo express their appreciation for these liberal donations and hope to publish a more complete list later on. Freer Is Member Of Guernsey Club Lewis C. Freer, well known Burley dairyman, has been accepted into membership in the American Guernsey Cattle club, according to information released by that organization. Mr. Freer has a large herd of I registered Guernseys and nas numerous occasions.

Denman, as long as there are dehydration plants in operation here under war contracts, according to word received from the federal authorities. The continuance of the school will make available the much needed help for these industries.

If the school district is unable to provide funds for its maintenance, income will be secured from fees collected from parents of the children and from contributions of the federal government. at his home in Paul, after two years illness. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Bllllngton was born February 24, 1878 in Klrksville, the son of Thomas and Susan Sharps BUlington. He was married March 27, 1908 in the Salt Lake City L.

D. S. temple. He and his wife, Stella Bllllngton lived in Spring City, Utah until 24 years ago when they moved and settled, on a ranch at Paul, where they 'resided at the time of his death. Aside from his wife, he is sur vived by three sons, Jesse of Paul; Louis of Blackfoot and Elmo with the U.

S. army in France; one daughter, Mrs. Luclle Brown of Paul; five grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Leonard of Twin Falls, William of Missouri, Marlon of Minnesota; Joseph of Missouri and Earl of Tooele, Utah, Mrs. Lona Lowe of Twin Falls and Mrs. Pearl Moore of Missouri.

About 12 of these machines will be operated by Idaho farm ers, while some machines allocat ed to neighboring states are ex pected to come into Idaho for part of their cutting schedule. snaw said the county AAA of fice will cooperate with the harvest brigade operators and all other combine owners who will, do custom harvesting, to work out problems of obtaining gasoline, tires, transportation, equipment, workers and other necessary aids. County offices will serve as clearing houses, for receiving requests from farmers for combining services and will help custom operators work out, schedules to save time and over-the-road mileage between jobs. Combine owners who can do custom work also are Invited to talk their plans over with the AAA committee so mutually beneficial plans can be developed.

"We want farmers who expect to depend on custom harvesting to register with us, listing the location, of their grain (peas and beans, where applicable), their acreage and "When they expect it to 'be Teady to cut," Shaw said.
